new tour, new songs, new facebook, and more!

24. October 2008

hello hello hello. it’s been a while since we’ve talked. how have you been? we hope you’ve been well. we’ve got all sorts of tapes news for you. things have been good here in the tapes camp, considering the way the economy’s totally gone in the toilet. there’s been lots of football, working on new songs, and other glorious things going on. but soon the winter’s going set in, and with the winter, comes the cold and the dark. so we decided to get outta town and go on tour. when january rolls around we’re hitting the road for a couple months. we’re going to be touring all over the U.S. of A., playing in places we’ve never played before (boulder, boise, lawrence, ames, south bend…we’re talking to you) and places we know and love (everywhere else, we’re talking to you). there’s gonna be lots of smaller clubs, some new songs, and maybe even some new arrangements (the other day, josh dicovered this thing called an accoustic guitar…it’s nuts!). but rest assured, there will still be plenty of good old fashioned rock music. check out all of the dates and ticket links in the tour page.

we know that things are tight these days. so we thought we’d put together a little list of things that we’re doing to save cash, that could maybe save you some cash, too. we call it:

10 WAYS TO SAVE MONEY TO BUY TAPES ‘N TAPES TICKETS (OR FOOD, OR HEAT, OR WHATEVER YOU NEED MOST)

1. Go to the LIBRARY- Why buy books when you can borrow them? Here’s a library locator to help you out. At most libraries you can also get movies!

2. Eat at home – This can save you some serious cash! Start by making this Panang Curry recipe of Josh’s.

Panang Curry

2 Tbls Panang Curry paste (1 1/2 to 3 Tbls is normal range depending on heat)
6-10 Kaffir Lime leaves finely cut up with kitchen scissors (no wider than 1/16”)
1 can Coconut Milk
1 1/2 # Chicken Breast or Pork sliced thinly into strips no longer than 3”, or veggies or tofu
1 # of whole Green Beans, stemmed
1/2 C Thai Basil roughly chopped
2 Tbls Fish Sauce
2 Tbls sugar
1 Tbls Tamarind Paste (also called Concentrate)
3 cloves garlic minced

1. In a separate bowl, cover beans with boiling water, cover and let stand 4-5 minutes. Drain.
2. In 2 – 3 Tbls hot oil in wok, brown meat over high heat. Add minced garlic after the first stir. Continue cooking until done (3-5 mins). Remove to serving container.
3. Add 3 Tbls coconut milk to wok and heat over medium high heat for 1 minute. Add curry paste and lime leaves. Stir fry for 30- 60 seconds until fragrant.
4. Stir in remaining coconut milk and heat to boiling. Maintain gentle boil for 5 – 10 minutes until reduced in volume by about 25% or until it starts to slightly thicken.
5. Add meat back to pan. Add basil, fish sauce, tamarind paste, and sugar. Let simmer for about 10 minutes (no longer than 20 minutes)
Serve with rice

3. Bottle your own water and make your own coffee- This one is kind of a pain, but is pretty obviously beneficial.

4. Have a garage sale- Personally, I am definitely doing this. Offload your junk on unsuspecting folks.

5. Go veggie- If you can do three meatless days a week (without substituting fish), you could save $25 a week, which equals $100 a month, which equals $1,200 a year! That’s a bunch of Tapes ‘n Tapes tickets right there!!!!! Ha!!!

6. HAPPY HOUR- Everybody loves some cheap drinks and eats

7. Take the city BUS or ride your BIKE

8. UNPLUG your appliances- They steal your money even when you’re not looking at or running them. They’re evil like that.

9. FREE MUSEUMS – Also, going to free art gallery openings is always a good idea

10. CHEAP MUSIC! The wonderful people at insound.com gave us a coupon to pass on to you! You can get 15% off your order using the coupon tapesnsave15. The coupon is only good for the next two weeks, so get on it!

we know they’re all pretty simple, but we’re just trying to help out, ya know? that’s what friends are for.

speaking of friends, we’ve got a new way to keep up with all of you (our friends). we went out and created a facebook page. now we know some of you think facebook is evil (so do some of us…), but there is all sorts of sweet stuff that we couldn’t resist (tour dates, tix links, discussion board, news, etc.). so we went ahead and joined in the facebook party. go here and check it out.

if you head on over there to our new facebook page you can find a couple of new remixes of The Dirty Dirty by the wonderful and talented AmpLive. they’re pretty crazy awesome.

that was a lot of news…so thanks for reading all the way through. we’re excited to see all of you in a couple of months. we hope you’re all gonna vote on nov. 4th. if you’re not registered, aren’t sure if you’re registered, moved since you last voted, or don’t know where to vote, go here, and get all set up. if you’re out seeing movies, and keep your ears peeled for a tapes ‘n tapes song in nick and nora’s infinite playlist.

love,

tapes ‘n tapes

a little bit ago, josh decided to take on a pile of cheeseburgers and see how long it took him to walk off the calories from eating 20 grease laden patties. aol caught all of the excitement on video for your viewing pleasure. check it out:

that's all for now. there's gonna be some more news in the near future, so come back and visit us soon. cheers!

30. June 2008

first off, tonight (6/30), we’re gonna be on “late night with conan o’brien” again! ok, full discloser, they’re rebroadcasting the episode that we were on back in april….but, we’re still super excited, and thought we’d let you know about it. so check your local listings, grab some popcorn, plop down in front of the old tv, and join us, eddie izzard, morgan spurlock, conan, and the whole gang, for and hour of laughs, music, and fun!

in other news…we’ve been back home from europe for a couple of weeks now. and we have to say, europe, you were great. and it wouldn’t have been nearly as great if it hadn’t been for all of you wonderful people that came out to the shows. thanks! and a special thanks to land of talk for playing with us. y’all are wonderful!

but enough about the past, it’s time to focus on the future. more importantly, the next few months. we’ve got some shows coming up. first up, we’ll be heading on out to beautiful california on july 19th and 20th to play the download festival in san francisco and los angeles, respectively.

then a few short weeks later we’ll be heading out to mccarren pool in brooklyn to play with the black keys and be your own pet on august 7th. we’ll probably have some more shows to announce soon around that time…like the one we’ll be playing on august 15th in madison, wisconsin at the majestic!

so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground, and hopefully we’ll be coming your way shortly!
